Why Bones Need More Than Calcium
Category: Healthy Body
When it comes to bone health and nutrition, calcium first comes to mind. However, bones need more than calcium.
There are studies involving about twenty nutrients that, one way or another, supports bone health.
Bone is not built with calcium alone. Bone contains significant amounts of magnesium and trace minerals zinc, copper, and manganese.
Magnesium allows your bones to absorb calcium more readily, which is why it's the perfect complement to calcium in supplements.
Lack of vitamin D can lead to a loss of bone density, which can contribute to osteoporosis and fractures.
Other vitamins and minerals needed for bone maintenance and repairs include:
-
Phosphorus
-
Vitamin K
-
Vitamin A
-
Vitamin C
-
Vitamin B6
-
Vitamin B12
-
Folate
People get in trouble because their bones are not as strong as they need to be. Because as you grow older, it can be difficult, if not impossible, for you to recover from bone fractures. We really need to pay attention, throughout our life span, to what we can do to have better bones.
In this short video clip, Dr. Daggy explains why bones need more than calcium.
